OOTD | River Walk

IMG_1987

I’ve had this outfit post on my desktop for a little while now. Seems as good a time as any to share. The week between the ending of finals and graduation was oddly hot for the beginning of May… but I’m not complaining! I spent the time relaxing, prepping for graduation, cleaning out the apartment I called home for the past two years, hanging out with the best of friends, and enjoying as many Morgantown traditions and quirks as I could. But of course we also had to indulge in Starbucks’ frappuccino happy hour and walks along the river trail!

Thursday Thrift: Versatile Florals

IMG_1456

Hey all!

It’s that time again. First Thursday of the month (how is it March already?!). I thrifted this fantastic blouse over last summer. Yes, I love it that much I did find ways to wear it in the warm summer months. But today I’ll share a few other ways I like to style it. Here I wore it as a semi business casual look. (yes, my interpretation of business casual tends to be on the more casual side but no, business casual doesn’t have to mean stuffy and boring) I paired it with dark jeans and threw on a black blazer for a little more professionalism, and finished off the look with black cutout booties and a crafted button necklace.

I’ve also worn it tucked into black dress pants, which I’ve found to look great too. I don’t always dress it up though… sometimes I’ll wear it with a basic skinny jean and black canvas kicks (aka Keds), roll up the sleeves and I have a cute casual day look. Versatility… the spice of fashion.

Is there anything in your closet you find ways to wear for every occasion?

Let's See Those Thrifty Finds

Outfit Post: Green and Gold

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to share an outfit post today. On top I’m wearing a basic black v-neck sweater and a forest green blazer. On bottom I’m wearing a simple boot-cut blue jean with polka dotted almond toe flats. I paired a layered gold chain and purple beaded necklace with the outfit as well as a gold studded black bag. Currently, I’m loving gold accessories and blazers so this one was fun to wear and I even got to mix it up with some color (I love wearing black but a girl needs good color in her life too).

I wore this outfit for a site visit last week and to a couple casual meetings with classmates and coworkers. You could easily dress this up more with heels and fitted jeans or pants.

Blazer & Necklace: New York & Co. Sweater & Jeans: American Eagle. Flats: Forever 21. Purse: Alyssa.

How would you wear this pretty green blazer?

Thursday Thrift: Sweater Weather

Hi all!

I decided to participate in yet another fun installment called the Thursday Thrift. Perfect right? If you know me… you know I enjoy thrifting. So what more could I ask for than an excuse to post bi-weekly outfits inspired by thrift finds?

Here are a few photos of my outfit inspired by a simple thrifted sweater. I decided to mix casual with this pretty necklace.

HAT-tastic

What am I loving right now? HATS. Just because the air is cool and summer sun hats are out of season, doesn’t mean you can’t rock a fabulous hat through the fall and winter months!

1. Let me introduce to you the hat that inspired this post. A lovely eggplant color, wide-brim, wool, floppy hat from rag & bone.

2. Could this Etsy find be any more adorably perfect for fun fall weekend activities?

3. Completely dig the look of this embroidered 5-panel hat from Urban Outfitters.

4. Love, love, love everything about this chunky knit beanie from Wool and the Gang.

5. This wide-brim rancher style hat from H&M just had such a cool vibe I had to add it to the list. Plus the color is so pretty!

6. I admit, this velvet twist cloche from Anthropologie is not my style at all but if you can pull off this look… DO IT. Please.

7. How cool is this Eric Javits fedora from Nordstrom? It comes in black and peanut colors, too!

8. Anthropologie, you’ve done it again. This beyond perfect floppy hat would complete any fall outfit.

9. Wouldn’t you want to keep your ears warm in this classic everyday beanie from Target?

Don’t think you can pull off the hat look? I assure you, you can. It might be daunting but you just have to find the right style for you. Trial and error. Take a friend that will give you an honest opinion. (chances are it probably looks better than you think) Hats are fun and you can find one to accompany virtually any outfit. Branch out and find what hats work for you this season!

Trend: Denim.

Remember when I said “more to come” during my flannel photo shoot? Well, here it is. My lovely photographer that day also made quite a gorgeous model.

One of the trends I loved this summer was denim. Cut-off denim shorts, studded denim, trendy denim overalls, cut-off denim vests, dip-dyed and bleached denim… you get the picture. Anyways, why stop there? The weather is getting cooler but you can still rock a denim on denim look!

You can keep it cool and simple by pairing comfy boyfriend jeans (any jean cut will do but slouchy boyfriend cuts are perfect for those fall days when you want to look great with minimal effort) with your favorite white tee and a denim shirt or jacket. Embellished denim shirts are great but if yours is just plain, layer lots of necklaces or your favorite jewelry pieces to add your own personal twist. It also creates an intriguing focal point to your outfit.

I’ll let you in on a little secret…. Tierney upcycled the denim shirt she’s wearing here. Her and I both love finding good deals and many of our shopping trips end up in thrift stores. Finding great frames to thrift store clothes is key because, ultimately, you can make it into whatever you want. For this particular piece she dip-dyed and bleached the jacket and then embellished the front pockets with round silver studs. Doesn’t it look great? See more of her pieces here and maybe you’ll find something you like! Scratch that, you’ll definitely find something you like.

P.S. Old drive-in movie theaters make for awesome photo opportunities! Don’t you think?

Fall is for Flannel

IMG_3189

What’s one more reason I absolutely love this season, you ask? Because fall brings cool weather… and cool weather brings flannels, sweaters, and layers! My friend, Tierney, and I went on a little fall photo shoot recently and I couldn’t be happier with the photo results! (more from this day coming soon!) My style is forever changing but I like the idea of making a unique wardrobe that can be versatile and totally your own.

IMG_3301

I’m wearing one of my favorite old flannels (yes, it’s a men’s cut but I couldn’t resist and who doesn’t love a slightly oversized flannel that looks and feels great?) I’d probably say I have a definite addiction to three things when it comes to clothes: sweaters, florals, and flannels. I paired this one with simple skinny jeans and adorable black booties I found in my mom’s closet. I was super excited about this find! My morning went from “oh no I left all my shoes at school” to “thank you, mom!” I worked them into the outfit by pairing them with a neutral, high-ankle sock. It all came together for a low-key completely perfect fall outfit.

P.S. Thanks so much to my photographer TB!
